The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle- Is the movie a hidden gem? | The Big Screen Leap

Hey everyone, welcome back to The Big Screen Leap! On todays episode, we’re heading to the fictional town of Frostbite Falls to hang out with a flying squirrel, a not so bright moose, and spies from the land of Pottsylvania. We’re looking at Rocky & Bullwinkle and comparing it to its 2000s movie, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle starring Robert DeNiro, Jason Alexander, Rene Russo, and Piper Perabo. In the early 1960s, Rocky & Bullwinkle became one of the first animated shows that could potentially entertain both children and adults. One of the highlights of the show is that it spent time making fun of pop culture, broke the fourth wall, and despite having some major animation limitations, what made the show work well was its writing. Then in the year 2000, almost 40 years after the show stopped being made, Universal Pictures decided to make pull Rocky & Bullwinkle into live action to entertain audiences. So today we’re going to look at: -The show and it’s impact on animated shows. -The movie that brought the duo to the real world. -The similarities and differences. -And as always, the biggest question, was the leap from 1960s animation to live action worth it? If you enjoy fourth wall jokes, pop culture references, random celebrity cameos, then this episode is for you!
