¡Mucha suerte, familia! Que siempre os acompañen los cielos azules. Her first clutch was marked by adversity: her mate disappeared, and she went five days without eating. When she finally left the nest to forage for food, a hooded crow took advantage of her absence and made off with one of the eggs. Remény tried again with a new mate. On May 29th, B1 hatched after 34 days of incubation, followed by B2 on May 31st, after 33 days. The rearing process also had its difficult moments. We were very concerned about B1, who appeared to have trouble breathing—though, fortunately, the issue resolved itself. B2 fell from the nest twice while trying to escape the heat, but thanks to the intervention of Sándor Zsiros, it was able to return to its family. A brutal heatwave swept across Europe, putting both the chicks and their parents to the test. These were trying times, serving as a stark reminder of how vulnerable life in the wild truly is. Yet, Remény and her mate persevered. B1 and B2 grew and began preparing for their first flights. An extraordinary mother, an admirable father, and two wonderful offspring. A story of hardship, second chances, and hope—because starting over doesn’t guarantee success, but it can be the first step toward achieving it. Best of luck, family!
