Greater spiritual power requires humility, discernment and love. Apostle Joshua Selman teaches why recognising the body of Christ matters for balanced spiritual growth and effective Christian service.
Before pursuing another spiritual experience, consider this question: are you willing to receive what God has entrusted to someone else? In Discerning the Body of Christ, the emphasis moves from individual gifting to the wisdom, relationships and complementary contributions that build a mature believer.
Using Acts 20:20 and 20:27, Apostle Joshua Selman explores the whole counsel of God. Romans 12 presents many members with differing gifts. Apollos in Acts 18 shows that eloquence and zeal still leave room for instruction: Aquila and Priscilla helped him understand more fully.
The message challenges the assumption that one minister, one emphasis or one personal experience contains everything a believer needs. Prayer, sound doctrine, character, leadership, administration and practical wisdom are not rivals. A strength in one area should not become a reason to ridicule another contribution or ignore a genuine need.
Pride and insecurity are examined as barriers to learning. Professional referrals, ministry teamwork and feedback illustrate the value of admitting limitations. Leaders are called to serve people's growth, not an appearance of knowing everything, and to appreciate those serving behind the scenes.
This is not a call to accept every claim or excuse wrongdoing. The sermon explicitly rejects using human imperfection as permission to remain spiritually careless. Younger ministers are urged to evaluate what they receive against Scripture and leave behind unhelpful patterns while maintaining respect. Its closing emphasis is love, unity without uniformity, and faithfulness to your own assignment rather than competition for a larger platform.
IN THIS MESSAGE, YOU WILL LEARN:
• Why no individual contribution replaces the whole body of Christ.
• How humility keeps gifted believers open to correction and learning.
• Why spiritual gifts should be joined with character and practical wisdom.
• How to receive thoughtfully without abandoning scriptural discernment.
• Why love and faithfulness matter more than comparison and visibility.
Listen with an open Bible and a teachable heart. Identify an area where you need to learn and appreciate someone's overlooked service. Share this message and subscribe for more teachings from Apostle Joshua Selman.
