Mixed Reactions as Apac Orders Shs20,000 PTA Contribution in All Government Primary Schools

Parents in Apac District are expected to contribute Shs20,000 to Parent-Teacher Associations at all government-aided primary schools, following a resolution by district leaders. District officials say the contribution is intended to improve education standards and is permitted under Section 9(1) and (2) of the Education Act, 2008. Apac District Inspector of Schools David Newton Odongo announced the resolution at an emergency PTA meeting at Omer Primary School on Wednesday. However, the decision comes amid a government crackdown on corruption and the illegal charging of fees in public schools spearheaded by Minister of Local Government Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi.
