Backpacking 5040 Peak on Vancouver Island. This was our second overnight trip ever! This trail is short but brutally steep, climbing nearly 930m in under 3km to reach stunning alpine views. We struggled through steep inclines, scrambled over roots and rocks, and pushed ourselves to the limit (to the point where I gave a motivational speech lol)… but it was all worth it for the turquoise waters of Cobalt Lake and two unforgettable nights camping on the summit. If you’re looking for one of the best (and challenging) backpacking hikes in Canada, 5040 Peak is a must.
