Everest | Khumbu Icefall | 2026
After completing my Annapurna I expedition, my journey continued toward the Everest region—but the 2026 Everest season faced a serious challenge before it could properly begin.
A massive hanging serac and an extremely dangerous section of the Khumbu Icefall prevented SPCC’s Icefall Doctors from completing the route. Without a safe passage through the icefall, climbers and expedition teams could not begin establishing the higher camps on Everest.
Together with SPCC, climbers from Imagine Nepal, Elite Expeditions, Bartek Ziemski —a Polish ski mountaineer—and me, representing AltiPro Adventure, entered the icefall to search for a possible way through.
Five of us moved into one of the most dangerous and unpredictable sections of Everest. After carefully exploring the terrain, assessing the hazards and working together, we successfully established a viable route through the Khumbu Icefall.
With the route finally open, the Everest 2026 season could move forward. Teams began carrying equipment through the icefall, setting up the higher camps and preparing for their summit rotations.
This is the story of how teamwork, experience and determination helped open the way to Mount Everest.
The summit may be the final goal—but every Everest expedition begins with finding a way through the Khumbu Icefall.
Follow the journey as we continue higher into the heart of Everest.
