Kilchoman 10 Loch Gorm: Video 235

Video 235: This is the first time the core release Loch Gorm has a 10 year age statement. I will applaud Anthony Wills for getting there where he can now release some age statement whiskies. People sometimes criticize these younger distilleries (including myself), for just releasing non age statement whiskies. When they finally release an age statement it is beyond the average consumer's pocket book. New Scotch Single Malt distilleries require a big investment and patience to get them up and running. Then you have to wait 3 years to sell it as Scotch and in the mean time have enough investment to pay the bills and wages. Most new distilleries are selling their young whiskies to make ends meet and still try to save some for the future age statement whiskies. This is a "Field to Bottle" operation so there is a lot more investment and expenses. Remember this company's name is not Diageo. The rewards at the end of the day are what they bottle. An honest transparent presentation of a non chill filtered whisky with a natural colour at 46% abv or higher. And let's not forget that part of the expenses are investing in high quality casks. Kilchoman has a uniqueness because it is the only all in-house operation on Islay from harvesting the barley in the fields to bottling their single malt whiskies. This Loch Gorm 10 Year Old was matured in 23 different Oloroso Sherry Butts from Bodega Jose Miguel Martin in Spain. 20 of these casks were first fill and 3 were refill casks.
