Surroundings - Demo [ FULL DEMO ] | AUSTRALIAN METALCORE

Surroundings are a melodic metalcore band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in 2011. Before releases such as Overcome the Distance, Of Bane, Burden & Change and Glass Heart, the band circulated this early four-track demo during their first year together. An exact release date for the demo is currently unknown, but surviving posts from the band's Facebook page confirm that it was already available by mid 2011. Surroundings distributed the recording themselves through a MediaFire link and encouraged listeners to download it, while copies were also circulated through several music blogs of the period. [6:42] Turning Point The demo captures an embryonic version of material that Surroundings would soon develop further. On September 10, 2011, the band shared "Concepts" and specifically announced that the song would be re-recorded for their upcoming EP with guest vocals. Several months later, Surroundings released Overcome the Distance on February 9, 2012, featuring new versions of "Realisation" and "Concepts," the latter featuring Jacob Pelz. "Turning Point" also appears to have developed into "Turning Point of Remembrance" for the EP. The 2012 release expanded this early material into a six-track record: 1. The Passage of Separation 2. Realisation 3. Concepts (feat. Jacob Pelz) 4. Smoke and Mirrors (feat. Bryant Best) 5. Turning Point of Remembrance 6. Within Reunion Surroundings continued developing considerably beyond these early recordings. They released their first full-length album, Of Bane, Burden & Change, in 2014, followed by singles including "Elizabeth," "Jane," "Paper Cranes," "Chronesthesia" and "The River's Edge." Their second album, *Glass Heart*, followed in 2019. Although I haven't found a formal announcement stating that Surroundings ended, their recording activity appears to have quietened following this period. Their Facebook page remained active afterward and later promoted new musical projects involving members of the band, including guitarist Drew's project Burrow. This demo appears to have largely disappeared from the band's currently available discography despite being distributed freely by Surroundings themselves in 2011.
