In this video, we will understand why Power BI environments become more complex as organizations grow, and how Microsoft Fabric changes the architecture underneath Power BI.
We will start with a simple Power BI setup and gradually see what happens when more data sources, more semantic models, more reports, repeated transformation logic, and governance requirements are added.
Then we will compare the traditional Power BI architecture with Microsoft Fabric and understand what actually changes.
Topics covered in this video:
• Why Power BI environments become complex at scale
• Multiple data sources and repeated transformation logic
• Multiple semantic models and report dependencies
• Governance challenges in larger Power BI environments
• How Microsoft Fabric changes the architecture
• OneLake as a common data foundation
• Lakehouse and Warehouse in Fabric
• Dataflow Gen2 and reusable transformation logic
• Semantic Models and Direct Lake
• Why Power BI still remains an important part of Fabric
In the practical section, we will also explore Gold layer data inside Fabric and learn how to understand a table before using it in Power BI.
We will answer three important questions for every table:
1. What does one row represent?
2. What business questions can this table answer?
3. Can Power BI use this data directly, or does it need more modeling?
We will explore Sales, Inventory, and Defect data and understand why prepared Gold data does not automatically mean that every table should be connected together.
The key lesson is simple:
Don’t start with the visual.
Start with the data.
