He knew the way in. Nobody taught him the way out. He was sixteen — and seven of the greatest warriors alive were waiting inside.
The story of Abhimanyu, Arjuna's son: he learned the chakravyuha from inside his mother's womb, but she fell asleep before the way out. On the thirteenth day of Kurukshetra he broke the spinning wheel alone, the door was sealed behind him, and he beat the whole Kaurava army — until Drona told Karna to get behind him.
Retold from the Mahabharata in Kisari Mohan Ganguli's translation (1883–96): Drona Parva 33–51 and 72–73, with the popular tellings (the womb lesson, the seven warriors, the wheel). More Hindu mythology stories and Indian mythology stories on the channel.
Next story from the Mahabharata: Ghatotkacha — Bhima's giant son died, and Krishna started dancing.
