FROM RIO CLARO TO WASHINGTON | A Tribute to Dr. Andrew Marcano — Lord Superior 🇹🇹👑
From Rio Claro to Washington celebrates the extraordinary life, music and legacy of my uncle, Dr. Andrew Marcano, known to the calypso world as Lord Superior — “Supie.”
Born in Rio Claro, Trinidad and Tobago, Lord Superior began his professional calypso journey as a teenager and went on to devote more than six decades to the art form he loved.
From “Coconut” and San Fernando Carnival to Spread Joy, Saga T’ing, Standardise Pan, Cultural Assassination, Brass Crown and “Black Coffee,” his music documented culture, history and the changing world around him.
His journey stretched far beyond Rio Claro—from Trinidad’s calypso tents to international stages, Madison Square Garden and Washington, D.C. His contributions included recording, producing, advocating for calypsonians and helping preserve traditional kaiso for future generations.
He was honored with Trinidad and Tobago’s Hummingbird Medal (Silver) and later received an honorary Doctor of Letters from The University of the West Indies.
This song follows that remarkable journey:
From Rio Claro to Washington.
Rio Claro gave him roots.
Calypso gave him wings.
The world gave him a stage.
And history remembers his name.
