The Bane Leviathan is a seriously impressive-looking machine, and for the first part of its MechWarrior Online Skill Up Series, I decided to take it onto Frozen City Night Classic in Assault Mode and see what this massive Clan assault mech could do. For this first build, I went with dual C.H.A. 30s, an LRM 15 for additional long-range support, and four Heavy Medium Lasers as the shorter-range backup. The idea was fairly simple: use the C.H.A. 30s and LRM 15 to work on enemies from range, strip armour and start taking components and internals apart, then bring the energy weapons into play when the fight gets closer. This is one of my first builds for the Bane Leviathan, and the first thing I discovered was that heat management is going to be a major problem. With the number of weapons firing on the build, it can get very hot, which means this isn't a mech that can simply sit in the open and keep firing indefinitely. The other problem became obvious during the match: ammunition is limited. The build can do some serious long-range damage, but it isn't really designed to spend the entire match sniping. The LRM 15 can also be inconsistent when there are several enemy mechs around, as AMS can quickly reduce the missile stream. Against an isolated target, however, it does exactly what I wanted it to do. The Bane's enormous arms are another thing that takes some getting used to. They give the mech plenty of weapon reach, but you need to aim carefully around walls and obstacles. Without a zoom visor equipped, I was also relying on the standard zoom while testing the build. The fight against a King Crab shows both the strengths and weaknesses of the setup. The Bane can steadily wear an opponent down, but once the heat starts climbing, taking cover and waiting for the weapons to come back online becomes essential. There is little point in sitting in enemy fire while waiting for your own weapons to cool. And against something carrying Rotary autocannons, cover becomes even more important. This is exactly what the Skill Up Series is about for me: taking a new mech, testing a build, finding the weaknesses, and figuring out how I can make the most of it. What did you think of the match and the Bane Leviathan build? Would you change the loadout?
