When I first got into lute music, there was very little good information on how and where to shop for a lute, or what to look out for. I hope this guide serves others who want to buy a lute but don’t know where to start.
Corrections: I said in the video that Thomann is a Greek seller, when I meant “German” :). Also, from looking at pictures of the EMS lutes, I think they may have a laser-cut rose like the Muzikkon lutes.
Classical Guitar (~$150): https://a.co/d/1LdjV9d (Nice Student Model from Yamaha with similar string length to a Renaissance Lute)
Muzikkon Small Treble Lute ($581): https://www.muzikkon.com/collections/...
Muzikkon Full-Sized Lute ($750 - $850): https://www.muzikkon.com/collections/...
(The wood selections on Muzikkon lutes are mostly about aesthetics and shouldn’t really affect the sounds or playability)
Early Music Shop Heritage Lutes (~$1000): https://earlymusicshop.com/collection...
