Truthfulness does not stop at not lying. It begins there.

In this session, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus walks through the six ascending degrees of ṣidq — truthfulness — as the classical tradition maps them: a path that starts at the tongue and ends in every state of the heart. The six levels: In speech — not lying, and learning what actually counts as a lie. Most of us fall into kinds of lying we don't recognise as lying. In intention — meaning it truly. This is the point where truthfulness and sincerity meet. In following through — you intended it sincerely, but did you carry it out? In resolve — holding firm through the doing, not only at the moment you began. In every act — being true to God in whatever you are doing, which in practice means being one hundred per cent present in it. In the class, give the class everything. In the prayer, the prayer. With the person in front of you, that person — not your phone, not the next thing. In the heart — truthfulness in every inward state. When you repent, repent with everything. When you are grateful, be wholly grateful. When you trust, trust completely.
