The surviving Old Norse tradition preserves unsettling stories of the dead remaining connected to their graves, possessions, and burial places. Some mound-dwellers guard what was buried with them. Others become dangerous when the boundary between the living and dead is disturbed. For Týr, the warning is simple: Respect the grave. Respect what was left with the dead.
