For generations, the mounds stood beneath the grass. The stones weathered. The names faded. And whatever remained beneath them stayed silent. Until now. Old Norse stories preserve unsettling accounts of the dead remaining connected to their burial places and possessions. Some guard what was buried with them. Others become dangerous when the living disturb the boundary between grave and living world. But what happens when nobody opens the mound— and something inside moves anyway? One mound shifts. Then another. The earth is no longer still.
