3 Disturbing Airbnb Horror Stories

A Gatlinburg cabin, a Baltimore row house, and an Iowa farmhouse: three rentals where the host already knew something the guest did not. Dale and his wife pulled the battery from the smoke detector over their bed. Within a minute the host messaged them to please leave it connected. Ray heard the deadbolt on the owner's closet turn from the inside at 3:10 every night for three nights. Carol read rule seven on the house sheet, the one crossed out in blue ink, and decided not to find out what was below the floor. These are invented stories. The dread in each one is the same detail: the host was paying attention.
