Anasuyamma (Died) per LR and Another v. B. Madhusudhan Reddy (Died) per LRs and Others 2026 INSC 1126 Supreme Court of India (Civil Appellate Jurisdiction) 14 October 2026 Can you gift land to someone if you have already given up your rights over that property? Does a registered Gift Deed automatically establish ownership? In this Indian property law case, discover how a decades-old land dispute involving a 1959 Family Settlement, a 1986 Compromise Agreement, a 1990 Compromise Decree, and a 2007 Gift Deed eventually reached the Supreme Court of India. Dinesh had relinquished his claim over certain lands belonging to his mother under a family settlement. Years later, he executed a registered Gift Deed transferring those lands to Karan, the son of his nephew Vikram. The legal heirs challenged the transaction, but both the Trial Court and the High Court dismissed their claims. The Supreme Court examined the earlier settlements, the challenge to the Gift Deed, and the legal rights claimed over the disputed properties. On 14 October 2026, the Court set aside the two earlier judgments and allowed the claim as prayed for.
