Steam Specials Around Indiana & Michigan 10/18/26

Today was a really nice day. On a nice October Sunday, we find ourselves around the Tri-State Area of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan to see Nickel Plate Road 765 on the Indiana Rail Experience's Fall Colors Special to Hillsdale, MI. Unlike our last two visits, we only chased the Northbound run of the train, as we had other plans for the rest of the day. After getting our first shot just outside of Pleasant Lake, IN, we found out it stalled on a hill due to damp rails prompting them to back up for a second go and for NKP 358 to come to their aid and assist the train all the way to Hillsdale in case the 765 slipped again, which was definitely a nice change of pace. After getting some stationary shots in Hillsdale, we began making our way back west with a stop in Coldwater, MI to film the Little River Railroad's Pumpkin Train with their two steam engines, 110 and 1, which was the main reason why I wanted to head out given how last year the weather wasn't cooperating with so to head out this year on a sunny day was a nice change of pace. To make matters even more interesting, an extra Indiana Northeastern local was right behind the Pumpkin Train with one of the former Lake State Railway SD40s in the lead, which was a nice surprise. All in all, this was a pretty good day to be out trackside, and it's always good to see 765 out on the mainline, and it was good getting another shot at Little River that didn't involve any rain, all in all, it was a really solid day.
