With the low miles, age, and condition, it's an HD Certified bike complete with a one year warranty. This walkaround covers why this bike a significant step up from my Sportster, including the storage capacity and the nostalgic styling that caught my eye back in the 80's. We also look at the Milwaukee-Eight 114 (M8) engine performance and address some challenges with the bike's weight and handling. I share my thoughts on finding the right ergonomics for my height, specifically how I adjusted my position to get into the windshield's dead zone for a more comfortable ride. Why the Heritage? I always thought they were super badass looking bikes since their launch back in the mid 1980's. The Sportster's stiff suspension is fun but the overall ride quality is getting harder to bear as I age. That and the temptation. I just felt the converted 883R was gonna get me in trouble, one way or the other. So, I started looking and researching. The more I looked, the more I returned to the Heritage. Wind protection, smoother ride, and storage, not to mention the nostalgic styling. The additional weight is obviously a difference, but my biggest challenge is getting used to forward controls. Learning to ride on dirt bikes, and owning mainly metric bikes in my earlier years of street riding, my feet were always under me. To me, I feel I have better balance and control of the bike. I imagine most dirt/ADV riders (and manufacturers) would agree. In short, no pun intended, I feel I need to "scoot up" or move slightly forward on the saddle. The bars are fine but I feel I'm stretching a bit for the foot controls. So, I do. Just an inch or so, and I ride with a straighter back than my default posture. It works AND puts me cleanly in the windshield's dead zone. I've looked for "reach" saddles but will hold off for a while until I log more miles. So far, so good. I'm really enjoying the softer ride, storage, and wind protection. I'm still getting used to her but that's part of the fun. It's also nice not to have to layer up quite as much during the winter.
