Casatiello Napoletano | Neapolitan Stuffed Easter Bread

Wishing you all a Happy Easter! To celebrate this special day, I thought I would show you how to make Casatiello Napoletano. This is a cheese and salami stuffed bread made into a ring shape. Napoletano means ‘of Naples’ and casatiello derives from the word cheese. I am super excited to be making this traditional Italian Easter bread. This bread also has a lot of symbolism towards Easter Sunday, representing different facets of historic Easter tradition (the ring shape of the bread is symbolic of Jesus’ crown of thorns, the use of pecorino romano cheese is symbolic of the sacrifice of the lamb as this cheese is made from sheep’s milk, etc). In addition to this bread being filled with some delicious Italian cheeses and meat, raw eggs are nestled on top of the bread that cook as the bread bakes leaving you with some hard baked eggs!
