This song is a letter from a dad to his children and to the mother who raises them. It's about owning my mistakes, asking for forgiveness, and asking for a chance to be there for my kids. If you're a father fighting to stay in your children's lives, or you're one of those kids, I hope you hear the love in this one. Healing starts when we lay down the anger and give peace a try.
"I'm Still Their Father" is from my first EP, Mended Roads, Vol. 1. Pre-save it here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/men...

LYRICS
To the ones I hurt,
And the ones who hold my world—
I’m writing this for my children.
I just wanna say I’m sorry—yes, I know,
And I know this letter’s reaching you too late.
There’s a truth I’ve carried deep inside my chest,
A few words I still need to say.
Whatever broke between us, whatever we both did,
I’m asking for forgiveness for the sake of our kids.
My son, my daughter—you are everything to me;
I’m still your father, wherever I may be.
You can hold the power, let the court decide,
You can wish me gone and keep me on the outside.
But tell me what is won when all the years go by?
I miss the little moments money can’t buy.
I miss my kids—every day, every night,
I miss their voices, their hands in mine.
Let the past rest; let a new day begin,
If you can find it in your heart, let me in.
I’m not here to take them, I’m not here to fight;
I just want to be their father in their lives.
I’m sorry for the hurt, I own what I’ve done—
Please let me love my daughter and my son.
We can point our fingers till the years run dry,
Or lay down the anger and give peace a try.
Call him, call her—just to hear them say hello,
Those little pieces of their lives I never get to know.
The tears I’ve cried, the ache I carry through,
I would never wish that kind of hurt on you.
We can argue back and forth; yes, that part is true,
But this is not just about me and you.
Let the old words quiet; let the door unclose,
I’m asking for a chance to watch them learn and grow.
I miss them in the daylight, miss them when it’s late;
Each day apart is one more day I can’t replace.
I miss my kids—every day, every night,
I miss their voices, their hands in mine.
Let the past rest; let a new day begin,
If you can find it in your heart, let me in.
I’m not here to take them, I’m not here to fight;
I just want to be their father in their lives.
I’m sorry for the hurt, I own what I’ve done—
Please let me love my daughter and my son.
I know I was young, I was lost in my pain,
I made my mistakes; I won’t hide from the blame.
I’ll carry what I’ve done; I won’t call it small,
But being their father is the deepest part of all.
You don’t have to like me; you don’t have to pretend,
I’m asking for a path where the children don’t lose me.
No taking them from you, no tearing them away—
Just a place in their lives, a chance to show up each day.
For every birthday missed—let me show up right.
For every goodnight absent—let me earn that time.
For every door between us—let it open wide.
Let the children know their father’s still alive.
I’ll listen. I’ll learn. I’ll do my part.
I’m asking for a chance, not a brand-new start
That erases what happened or excuses my past—
Just one small opening, and a love that can last.
I miss my kids—every day, every night!
I miss their voices, their hands in mine!
Let the past rest; let a new day begin!
If you can find it in your heart, let me in!
I’m not here to take them, I’m not here to fight!
I just want to be their father in their lives!
I’m sorry for the hurt, I own what I’ve done—
Please let me love my daughter and my son!
I’m still their father.
I’m still here.
I’ll keep doing the work.
I’ll keep asking with care.
For my daughter.
For my son.
With all my heart—
I’m sorry.
