Callaize (Solo Marimba Version)

Robert Clayson, Marimba "Callaize" is a piece about two of our cats, Callie and Blaize. When we adopted them, it seemed like they were going to be fairly docile cats and that my wife and I had gotten off easy. However, as they got more accustomed to their new environment, their true personalities started to show and our house became exponentially more chaotic. This piece portrays both the calm energy and chaos these two cause in our house. This piece was originally conceived as a solo work for intermediate marimba, but it ultimately evolved into a flexible composition that may be performed either by a single soloist or by a soloist accompanied by an intermediate-level quartet. Writing in this vein has become something of a personal passion project for me, as there is an abundance of marimba solos with accompaniments written for advanced players, yet very few options suitable for beginners and intermediate performers.
