A Few Sketches About TV - for large ensemble

Composition premiered in 13 of July at CICPV 2024, Teatro Almeida Garret Ensemble Contemporâneo da Póvoa de Varzim Conducted by Nuno Coelho This piece was inspired by the way television shapes us today — its light and its shadow in equal measure. A window onto the world, as my grandparents used to call it, having lived through the very birth and rise of this curious, magical box. The gestures within the piece trace the influence television still holds over me — a meditation on how wholesome, or negative, the content flickering across that screen truly is, and on our need to question and reflect upon the ideas it feeds us. Stepping away from our screens isn't merely necessary — it's a form of self-care, a route back to stillness and quiet, far removed from the relentless torrent of images and sound the media pour over us daily.
