Narration: A woman named Nirmala lived in Rampur village; her husband had passed away several years ago. She had three children and supported their education and upbringing by selling vegetables. One day, while she was selling vegetables at the market, her children were helping her.
Nirmala (wiping away sweat): Buy fresh vegetables—straight from the farm! I’ll give them to you at a low price.
Narration: Nirmala was calling out to attract customers when a gleaming white car pulled up on the dusty market road. Sharda stepped out of the car; she was dressed in an expensive saree.
Sharda (with teary eyes): Nirmala *Bhabhi*... look at the state you’ve let yourself fall into since my brother passed away. The children are selling vegetables when they should be in school.
Nirmala (tears in her eyes): What could I do, *Didi*? Their father left us behind... and one has to put food on the table, after all. On top of that, there’s the cost of their education...
Sharda (hesitantly): *Bhabhi*, I need to discuss something with you. Let’s go home.
Narration: Nirmala and her children returned home with Sharda. Once there, Payal made tea for her aunt. After finishing her tea, Sharda took a deep breath.
Sharda (taking a deep breath): Nirmala *Bhabhi*... I have no children of my own. And how will you manage to educate all three of them on your own? I want to take Yuvraj to the city with me. I will raise him, send him to a good school, and help him become a successful man.
Nirmala (in astonishment): But...? Sharda (55) (persuasively): "Sister-in-law, there’s no rush... take your time... let me know by tomorrow... Alright, I’ll be leaving now..."
Narration: Saying this, Sharda leaves. That night, while everyone was having dinner, Nirmala spoke to Yuvraj:
Nirmala (52) (persuasively): "Yuvraj, my son... this is a wonderful opportunity for you. If you go to the city with your aunt, you can get an education and transform your life. Here, you’ll find nothing but poverty and hardship."
Mohan (20) (hesitantly): "Yes, brother... if you get educated and become wealthy, we won't have to live in poverty anymore; you could change our circumstances."
Yuvraj (21) (sadly): "Alright, then, Ma... I’ll go to the city with Auntie. Once I earn money and become wealthy, I’ll bring all of you to the city too."
Narration: Everyone supported Yuvraj’s decision. The next day, he got into the car and left for his aunt's home. She enrolled him in a prestigious school; Yuvraj now lacked nothing, but back in the village, Nirmala’s health suddenly deteriorated severely, leaving her bedridden.
Mohan (21) (breathlessly): "Ma, you aren't going to the fields anymore. From today on, I’ll handle both the farming and the market trips."
Nirmala (52) (coughing): "But son... what about your studies?" Mohan (masking his pain): "Mom, your well-being is more important than my education... Bhaiya is studying in the city, after all; he’ll bring honor to our family... I’ll manage things here at home... don't you worry."
Narration: Mohan gave up his studies to work in the fields; he grew vegetables and sold them at the market. Meanwhile, Yuvraj pursued his education while living a life of luxury. Five years later, Yuvraj had completed his studies and become the owner of a major company; he had also married Riddhi, a beautiful girl from the city. Mohan, on the other hand, was still toiling day and night in the fields and selling vegetables at the market; he too had married a girl named Radhika. One day...
Riddhi (airily): "Good morning, darling! Aren't you running late today?"
Narration: Yuvraj was sleeping in his plush bed when Riddhi entered the room and drew back the silken curtains from the window. Sunlight fell upon Yuvraj's face, and he woke up, stretching and yawning lazily.
Yuvraj (smiling arrogantly): "When I am the owner of the company, time moves according to my schedule, Riddhi... You go downstairs; I’ll freshen up and join you."
Narration: Riddhi went down to the hall. A massive dining table was laid out with a spread of breakfast items from around the world—sandwiches, fresh fruit, juices, and various sweets. Yuvraj’s sister-in-law Kavya, his brother-in-law Rohan, Riddhi, and his mother Lalita were all seated there.
