Three hours of calm: Vincent van Gogh's Poplars near Nuenen (also known as Lane with Poplars near Nuenen), painted in November 1885, displayed full screen as a quiet art wallpaper for relaxing, studying, working or unwinding. The oil on canvas measures 78 × 98 cm and is signed "Vincent" at lower left. It shows an autumn lane lined with tall poplars near Nuenen in the Netherlands, with sunlight breaking through the clouds onto golden leaves. Technical research has revealed that the canvas has three phases. Van Gogh painted over an image from 1884, also made in Nuenen. X-ray imaging and macro-XRF scans show that this hidden image depicts the Old Tower and Clemens Church in Nuenen. In 1886, in Paris, he added brighter highlights. In 1903, 26 Rotterdam friends of the arts gave the painting to the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, where it is kept today. It was the first Van Gogh painting in a Dutch public collection.
