Sciatica making walking or everyday movement uncomfortable?
In Step 1, we looked at comfortable positions that may help some people settle their symptoms. In this second video, I'm showing you gentle sciatic nerve flossing (nerve gliding) exercises.
Nerve flossing uses controlled movement rather than a strong, sustained stretch. The aim is not to force the nerve or push through increasing symptoms.
In this video I'll show you how to perform the movements gently and how to modify them if needed.
If you are new to this series, you may want to watch Step 1: Decompression Positions first.

Important: Sciatica-like symptoms can have different causes. These exercises will not be appropriate for everyone and this video is for general education only; it does not diagnose your symptoms or replace individual medical or physiotherapy assessment.
Stop if the movement significantly increases your symptoms or causes new/worsening weakness or numbness. Seek prompt medical advice for significant or progressive leg weakness, and urgent medical assessment for new bladder/bowel disturbance, numbness around the saddle/genital area, or other concerning neurological symptoms.

Sciatica and leg symptoms can have different causes, and nerve-flossing exercises may not be suitable for everyone.
Perform the movements gently and within a comfortable range. Do not force the movement or push through increasing pain, tingling, numbness or weakness. Stop the exercise if your symptoms significantly worsen or you develop new symptoms.
Seek appropriate medical or physiotherapy assessment if your symptoms are severe, worsening, persistent, or you develop new or increasing weakness or numbness.
Seek urgent medical attention if you develop new problems controlling your bladder or bowels, numbness around the genital/saddle area, significant or rapidly worsening weakness, or other concerning neurological symptoms.
If you are unsure whether these exercises are appropriate for you, please consult an appropriate healthcare professional before starting.
