Pittsburgh in the summer of 1962, in real Kodachrome color, scanned from the original 16mm film. Not colorized, not AI. A streetcar fan chartered a Pittsburgh Railways PCC car and filmed the whole day from the front window: across the bridges into downtown, past the one-year-old Civic Arena, through the traffic on the downtown streets past Isaly's and the Pittsburgh National Bank sign, up into the hillside neighborhoods, out to the car barns and the scrap lines, over the Smithfield Street Bridge, and into the woods of the South Hills on the 37 Shannon line, the only part of this film that still runs today. Pittsburgh had 600,000 people and was already shrinking. Two years later the Port Authority took over the streetcars, and within five years most of them were gone.
