Something special for Grange Hill fans to look out for in this one. David Wood visits Harborne School and looks for clues that suggest its age - fireplaces, cupboards, gas lamps, red bricks, large windows, chimneys, and even a mysterious small trap door in the middle of the hall. I bet you can't guess what that was for. (I didn't.) Then it's back in time to the Victorian era as Mrs McCluskey - yes, Bridget the Midget, a.k.a. Gwyneth Powell herself, shortly after having left Grange Hill - demonstrates how children would have had it a century earlier. Have you ever come across the phrase to "use the offices" before?
This episode was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 6th October, 1992, and I can't help but suspect some Partridge-level product placement of David's book at the beginning.
Grateful thanks to Ben for providing this recording - don't forget to check out / benriggers when you get the chance.
