THE FALL OF GUADALETE An epic symphonic metal song inspired by the Battle of Guadalete (711 AD) and the fall of the Visigothic Kingdom. Powerful vocals, harsh screams, massive choirs, soaring orchestration, and thunderous riffs tell of a kingdom destroyed by betrayal, ambition, and war. The crown was broken. The king was lost. Yet a flame still burns in the mountains of Asturias. THE FALL OF GUADALETE — THE MOUNTAINS WILL ANSWER. ⚔️ 711 AD 🎼 Genre: Epic Symphonic Metal 🎻 Style: Cinematic • Medieval • Iberian 🎤 Vocals: Male Vocals • Harsh Screams • Massive Choirs 🔥 Elements: Orchestral Strings • Brass • Battle Riffs • Melodic Guitars • Thunderous Drums THE STORY In 711 AD, King Roderic's Visigothic army faced the forces of Tariq ibn Ziyad. The defeat at Guadalete contributed to the collapse of Visigothic rule in Hispania. Weakened by internal rivalries, the kingdom descended into chaos. Roderic's fate remains uncertain, but resistance survived in the northern mountains, where Asturias became a symbol of defiance. A kingdom falls. A legend survives. LYRICS We were the heirs of Rome, We were lords of the land, With the crown upon our banners, With the sword within our hands. But the kingdom split in silence, While the vultures circled high... And the river bore our sorrow Beneath a burning sky. From the towers of Toledo Came the summons to the war, But the throne was cracked and bleeding Like the walls we fought for. Brothers turned against their brothers, Crown against the crown, While the lords of old ambition Waited for us to go down. We had gold upon our standards, Iron in our veins, Cities built upon our fathers, Fields beneath our reigns. Yet the kingdom stood divided, And division was our doom— For a sword may break an army, But betrayal breaks a throne. Hear the hoofbeats, hear the thunder, Hear the battle drums resound! Every oath is torn asunder, Every traitor waits around! GUADALETE! FIRE AND FATE! WE RODE TO WAR, BUT RODE TOO LATE! CROWN DIVIDED, KINGDOM FRACTURED, BY OUR OWN HANDS OUR FATE WAS CAPTURED! GUADALETE! BLOOD AND FLAME! WE LOST THE FIELD, WE LOST THE NAME! VISIGOTHIC GLORY, BURNING BRIGHT— FELL BENEATH THE SOUTHERN NIGHT! From the south the banners gathered, Crescent, steel and desert flame, Crossing seas and marching northward, Seeking conquest, wealth and fame. We were many, we were mighty, Yet our might was split in two; Some still swore allegiance to the crown, Some had other oaths to do. There were nobles in the shadows, There were whispers in the night: "Let the king go forth to battle— We shall choose another right." And the blades that should have guarded Turned their edges from the foe. When the kingdom called for brothers, Brothers watched the battle grow. GUADALETE! FIRE AND FATE! WE RODE TO WAR, BUT RODE TOO LATE! CROWN DIVIDED, KINGDOM FRACTURED, BY OUR OWN HANDS OUR FATE WAS CAPTURED! GUADALETE! BLOOD AND FLAME! WE LOST THE FIELD, WE LOST THE NAME! THE OLD WORLD SHOOK, THE OLD WORLD CRIED— AND VISIGOTHIC PRIDE HAD DIED! Steel met steel beneath the sun, Shields were split and horses ran. Spears were broken, banners torn, Hope was dying with the dawn. Dust arose above the slain, Blood was mingled with the rain. We fought beneath a burning sky, Yet something greater came undone. Then through the chaos, through the cries, The royal standard left our sight. WHERE IS OUR KING? No answer. WHERE IS OUR CROWN? No answer. WHO SOLD THE KINGDOM? Silence. Did he flee before the slaughter? Did he fall beneath the blade? Did the river hide his ending? None can tell where he was laid. Only this remains in memory: When the final charge was made, Roderic and his royal glory Vanished in Guadalete's shade. And when the field was finally silent, When the dying ceased to cry, We looked northward through the smoke clouds— And saw our kingdom die. Toledo would fall in sorrow, City after city burned, And the roads once ruled by Visigoths Were roads from which we turned. GUADALETE! FIRE AND FATE! THE OLD WORLD FELL, BUT NOT TOO LATE! THE CROWN WAS BROKEN, THRONE WAS GONE, BUT THE BLOOD OF THE OLD KINGDOM CARRIED ON! GUADALETE! HEAR THE CALL! KINGDOMS RISE AND KINGDOMS FALL! THE KING IS LOST, THE THRONE IS GONE— But the war... ...IS NOT DONE. Northward... Beyond the mountains... Where the old banners gather... Where the last free warriors stand... A flame still burns. One day... The mountains will answer. ASTURIAS... ...will remember.
