NEW WALK: Oaksey, Wiltshire – Signs of Autumn Come along on a peaceful early morning walk through the village of **Oaksey**, Wiltshire. At 7:30am, the air feels crisp, and the first signs of autumn can be seen in the turning leaves. This walk takes you along quiet lanes, past stone cottages, the parish church, and across open farmland, accompanied only by the natural sounds of footsteps, birds, and the countryside waking up. Oaksey is a small but historic village on the Wiltshire–Gloucestershire border. It was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, and over the centuries has been home to Roman villa remains, medieval farms, and even a Norman motte and bailey near Dean Farm. The heart of the village is All Saints Church, with origins in the 12th century. Inside, you can still find medieval wall paintings and stonework from across the centuries. Many of Oaksey’s cottages and farmhouses are built in the classic honey-coloured stone of the region, giving the village its timeless charm. In more recent history, Oaksey once had its own railway halt (opened in 1929, closed in 1964), connecting this quiet rural spot to the wider region.
