On Grosvenor Street in Blackpool, a five-bedroom terraced house went to auction with a guide price of £35,000 less than many people spend on a new family car. Just a few streets away, three-bedroom houses are listed for £40,000, while one-bedroom flats have sold for as little as £25,000. Across Britain, coastal homes in places like Salcombe, Padstow, or Sandbanks regularly sell for hundreds of thousands of pounds. Yet in seven other UK seaside towns, you can still buy a house or a flat by the sea for the price of a family car. In this video, we look behind the property listings to explore seven coastal towns across England, Scotland, and Wales where homes sell for between £25,000 and £75,000 and uncover the hidden catches waiting behind the front door, from Section 20 leasehold bills and shared Scottish tenement roofs to coastal erosion, non-standard construction, and former guest houses divided into bedsits. Which of these coastal towns offers the best opportunity and if you live in one of them, what do the property listings leave out?
