Where the Deschutes Shapes the Ride: Maupin’s White River Loop

On a beautiful autumn day in Oregon I rode the White River Loop with my buddy Dwight. You can check out the route here (https://dirtyfreehub.org/routes/orego..., shouts out DirtyFreeHub for another great route, and another great excuse to get out on our bikes. Climbing out of Maupin we spent the day toodling around among the beautiful wheatfields, down in the river valleys, and in the small towns of Wamic and Tygh Valley. The part where this ride had convenience store stops at miles 28 and 35 was highly appreciated. At no point did the climbing feel too much, and on a day where the high temperature was 70 degrees and there was little to no wind, it was pretty much perfect. This route is about 70 % pavement and 30 % gravel, and the gravel that is on this route is mostly flat and pretty tame so you could probably get away with underbiking this route (and if it became too much you could just do the Sherar's falls loop). Honestly, if you haven't ridden this stuff outside Maupin you should really go check it out, it's a beautiful place to be, and some great riding. Coming back into town we were tired but happy, and I think both of us would absolutely come back, if any of you have other variations on routes out of Maupin let me know.
