Camino Francés Day 34: Triacastela to Sarria

Stage 34 of the Camino Francés! Leaving Triacastela we took the right-hand fork to San Xil, rather than the longer Samos route. It's straight up from the start, past the fountain carved with a giant scallop shell at Fonte dos Lameiros and on to Alto do Riocabo (around 905 m, the top of the day's climb). Then the best bit: old sunken lanes through chestnut and oak, and down on stone slabs to Montán. Stunning! From Furela it's easy walking through Pintín and Calvor to Aguiada, where the Samos route rejoins. Then into Sarria, over the river and up the stone stairs to Rúa Maior. That's 17.8 k's for the day, with all the climbing in the first 5 k's. Lunch was pulpo at A Cantina Pulpería Luis. The pulpo is cooked at the front of the restaurant and chopped up right there. Super busy place! Pulpo in Galicia is a must! Sarria is where the last 100 k's begins, and where a lot of pilgrims start their Camino. We're now 114 k's from Santiago.
