We show how to use a slide hammer rented from Advance Auto Parts to remove stubborn, rusted in front hub bearing assemblies from the knuckles of a Mazda RX-8. Any car with bolt-in hub assemblies is probably fairly similar. Many RX-8s and Miatas driven on salty roads are likely to need the persuasion of a good slide hammer. This video is a follow-on to my BMW Autocross video where the front left hub bearing gave out while racing. Sticky tires and frequent racing are known to cause RX-8 hub flange cracking. Mine might have manifested itself as a popping noise prior to cracking completely, so pay attention to funny popping sounds from the front end and be sure to inspect hubs regularly on cars that are raced on sticky tires.
