In this video, I take a ride on Route 243 between Wood Green and Dalston. Been a while since I've ridden on the Tottenham BZLs so that's exactly what I decided to do here. Could've taken the 141 instead on an ED but I had enough of riding EDs after my trip down to Croydon where I rode some of South Croydon's electrified routes. Plus, I'm going to end up riding on EDs again to try out the DT Gen 2s that entered service recently on the 194. AR routes are generally always cooked which is why I don't film them that often and the 243 is no different. I mean, I literally couldn't even do the full route down to Waterloo even if I wanted to. Luckily there's several transport links connecting Holborn and Waterloo, anyway. I'm not sure if drivers get too little running time on this route or what but you will literally end up on a curtailed bus 70% of the time with the 243, or any AR route pretty much. It's just terrible man. 41s curtail to Hornsey Rise all the time. 243 either Lordship Lane, Tottenham or Holborn and the 341 always ends up only going Northumberland Park or in worse cases, Tottenham too. Anyway, enough on that. The ride I got here was decent bar the traffic. Quite busy, but that's expected as this route does make top 10 busiest routes in London. My problem with the BZLs, as much as they're nice and comfortable to ride on and bring a lot of the features a passenger would want (a nice onboard ambiance with the dimming lights feature and both USB-type support), I dislike the fan placement at the rear meaning that any device you'd use to record from this position just ends up picking up that sound rather than the nice tuneful motors BZLs have to offer. There's hardly any aircon on BZLs meaning you're cooked if there's a heatwave here and why do I have to physically get up to ding that one stop bell at the back of the lower deck? Why not put some on the grab handles fixed on the walls? That said, BZLs do suit AR routes. I do wish Arriva ordered more. They'd suit South Croydon routes as well I feel better than BYDs. Such a shame these buses didn't really do well on the London scene but it's kind of deserved to be honest as the BYDs are just built better from a future-proofing standpoint with the warmer climates we're starting to see. They also have better range and are delivered on much quicker timescales which is ironic as they get here in what feels like years in some cases before they enter service. Anyway, what is this description turning into? It's mean to be concise! 💀 Hope you enjoy the video! Thankfully it didn't quite hit the hour mark 😭. Route 243 runs between Wood Green and Waterloo Station. The route uses a mixture of Volvo BZLs and Wright Electroliners, though will soon only use BZLs. The route is run out of Arriva's Tottenham (AR) Bus Garage based in North London. © 2026 Jayden Emmanuel.
