6/8 March: The Scottish Division

I was asked by a friend to write him a higher level 6/8 march for use in pipe band drumming competition. This was quite a challenge as I had only ever written parade band-level 6/8s before. It was interesting trying to keep the underlying subdivision of the music intact while still providing some complexity and musical variety--a very fun challenge! Watching this video at 50% speed is also very interesting. You get to see the rhythms of the rolls that are happening in juxtaposition with the 6/8 subdivision. No wonder 6/8s are so difficult to master! The sheet music for this score is available free to subscribers of the mailing list for PipeBandDrummer.com (free to subscribe).
