Fiction, Faction and the Spaces in Between
Eoin McNamee and Aanchal Malhotra in conversation with Paul McVeigh, introduced by Colm McGivern
In Partnership with British Council
The boundaries of fiction and faction are porous, shifting and layered. These porous borders in contested histories and divided societies can blur the fixities of the stories they engage with. Contemporary writers Eoin McNamee, Aanchal Malhotra and Paul McVeigh discuss what it means to write the truth while navigating the vagaries of memory, conflict, and imagination.
Eoin McNamee is the author of nine novels, the most recent of which is The Bureau. He has also written extensively for film, television, and radio. His collected short fiction, The Comets, will be published in October 2026. He is the Director of the Trinity Oscar Wilde Centre.
Aanchal Malhotra is an oral historian and author of the critically acclaimed non-fiction books, Remnants Of A Separation and In the Language of Remembering. She has also authored a novel titled The Book of Everlasting Things. She has won the Council for Museum Anthropology Book Award and been shortlisted for the British Academy Book Prize and Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, among other honours. She is the co-founder of the Museum of Material Memory.
Paul McVeigh won the Polari First Book Prize for his debut novel The Good Son, and his short story collection I Hear You received The McCrea Literary Award. His stories have appeared in anthologies and have been broadcast on BBC and RTÉ Radio, as well as on Sky Arts. His writing has been translated into eight languages.
