On June 3, 2021, passengers heading to Oslo Airport stepped onto a brand-new Norwegian express train, the Type 78, the first of eight ordered by airport rail operator Flytoget. Twenty-one days later, Flytoget announced that all eight were being taken out of service. No crash. No derailment. Just a crack found in a structural component during scheduled maintenance. This documentary explains what sits underneath a passenger car, why one cracked bolster was enough to withdraw an entire new fleet as a precaution, how years of testing and authorization still didn't make a workshop inspection impossible, and why the cause of the crack has never been established in the public record. It follows the fix: a redesigned bolster from manufacturer CAF, fatigue testing, installation on all eight trainsets in 2022, new authorization, and a return to passenger service on January 9, 2023, 564 days after the withdrawal announcement. The full fleet was only back in service in 2024.
