【Video Overview】
Starting at the North Exit of Kichijoji Station, where the JR Chuo and Keio Inokashira Lines intersect, the route explores the narrow lanes of Harmonica Alley, which originated as a post-war black market. The area near the station features all-weather arcades such as Daiya-gai and Sunroad, demonstrating the central commercial function of Musashino City. Along the way, the route passes Musashino Hachimangu Shrine, founded during the Enryaku era (782-806), and Gessho-ji Temple, established in the early Edo period, illustrating a town structure where historical sites coexist with modern commercial districts.
Moving to the south side of the station, the walk leads to Inokashira Park, which opened in 1917 as Japan's first suburban park. At Inokashira Pond, located at the center of the park, the scenery of the vast forest belt and visitors operating rowboats is preserved. By walking under the Keio Inokashira Line tracks toward Inokashira-koen Station, the route records the topographical characteristics where the park and residential areas are closely integrated. The transition between shopping streets like Nanai-bashi-dori and the green space is documented from a factual perspective.
The latter part of the walk visits the Inokashira Park Zoo (Inokashira Park Nature and Culture Garden), which opened in 1942. Crossing the pedestrian bridge that connects the Aquatic Life Park to the Main Park, the video observes the animals living within the Musashino forest. The route includes the former enclosure of Hanako, who was known as the oldest elephant in Japan, and the Squirrel Path. The walk concludes at the Sculpture Garden, which houses over 200 works by sculptor Seibo Kitamura, the creator of the Nagasaki Peace Statue, showcasing a space where nature and art merge.
