Trophy Blocks for Kaisa Mäkäräinen - Biathlon World Champion ⚪⚪⚪⚪⚪ - Woodartist Wednesdays

During the past few years we've had a great honour to work with the most successful Finnish biathlete Kaisa Mäkäräinen 😊 A couple years ago we designed and manufactured a unique furniture set for Kaisa to her new house in Joensuu, Finland. The previous work included a showcase for the biathlon trophies, which was a topic we got to continue last spring. Kaisa finished her biathlon career in March 2020, and wanted to make a commemorating photoshoot with her prizes. She invited Woodartist's co-founder Joona to take the photos, as he had taken several portraits of her in the past years. To pull the photoshoot off safely, the bright glass trophies required sturdy stands which would not topple over if nudged slightly. We also wanted the trophies to be a bit higher so that Kaisa could stand in the middle of them. We ended up making 10 blocks 60 - 120 cm tall - and approximately 30 - 70 kg each. This would allow us to have different levels to place the trophies. The wood we used was from large larch trunks reclaimed from energy wood piles. If we hadn't taken them to our workshop, someone would have made fire wood out of them 🌲🪓🔥 The making process was simple - we cut the wood in blocks with our band saw mill and motor saw, charred the surface of the wood, brushed off excess char and gave the wood a finish with oil wax which seals the surface clean. Kaisa wanted to have a few of these blocks on her yard, we placed a few in our own houses, but we still have a couple of these in stock - if you want to consider getting one 😉 🔔⬅ We are posting a video of our makings on every Wednesday - subscribe if you want to see more.
