In Laikipia, Northern Kenya, invasive prickly pear cactus (Opuntia) is being converted into clean energy using a 25m³ biogas system at Loisaba Conservancy. This waste-to-energy project consumes up to 400kg of cactus daily, producing renewable biogas for cooking and organic fertilizer for soil restoration. The gas is used by wildlife rangers who previously relied heavily on firewood, helping reduce deforestation and support conservation efforts. By transforming invasive species into biogas, this project demonstrates how clean cooking solutions can protect ecosystems while promoting sustainable development. 📍 Location: Loisaba Conservancy, Laikipia, Kenya 🌍 Renewable energy solutions across Kenya & Africa Learn more about our biogas systems: 🌐 www.biogas.co.ke 📞 +254 722 700 530 #Biogas #CleanEnergy #InvasiveSpecies
