Lecture 1 Fatigue crack propagation experimental procedures and results analysis

Prof. Francesco Iacoviello The experimental procedures to perform the fatigue crack propagation tests are reviewed in the light of the fracture mechanics principles and of the ASTM standard, considering both the threshold conditions and the fatigue crack propagation of long cracks. The main fatigue crack propagation mechanisms are also reviewed considering different alloys. Finally, the analysis of the fatigue crack propagation results is discussed, mainly focusing their statistical dispersion, also considering the influence of the alloys microstructures.
