Mechanics — Episode 2: Physical Quantities, Measurement, and Units
Physics is an experimental science. Every theory must be tested against nature, every prediction must be compared with observation, and every measurement must be expressed with precision.
To understand mechanics, we must first understand what we measure: distance, time, mass, velocity, acceleration, and force. We must learn how to measure physical quantities, use standard units, and distinguish accuracy from precision.
The International System of Units (SI) provides the universal language of physics. Dimensional analysis helps us verify equations, reveal relationships, and detect errors before calculations are complete.
Measurement is where physics begins. Units are the language of measurement. Precision is the foundation of quantitative understanding.
Before we can explain how the universe moves, we must learn how to measure it.
