Rooted in Strength: The Women Behind Quinine follows Furah Kifungo, a small-scale cinchona farmer in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through her story, we see how working with Pharmakina has changed everyday life for Furah and her family. A farming contract gives her a reliable way to sell her cinchona bark and receive payment directly. She also has access to medical care and continues to build her farming knowledge through the Center of Excellence. Furah’s experience also reflects the lives of other women farmers in her community, whose work with cinchona helps support their families while contributing to a value chain that begins in the hills of the DRC.
