The healthcare system plays a critical role in the wellbeing and development of its people, providing care through hospitals, primary healthcare centres, pharmacies, community health initiatives, and an increasingly growing digital health ecosystem. Yet, for many Nigerians, accessing quality healthcare can still be difficult, particularly for people living in underserved communities and regions where healthcare resources and infrastructure remain limited.
Healthcare challenges often extend beyond the walls of hospitals. They involve affordability, distance, availability of qualified professionals, medical infrastructure, health information, technology, and the ability of people to access the right care at the right time. For many families, these challenges can determine not only how quickly someone receives treatment, but also whether they receive care at all.
Yet, one of the most important conversations about healthcare in Nigeria is not simply about what is lacking, but about what can be improved. From strengthening primary healthcare and investing in digital infrastructure to using technology and innovation to connect people with healthcare services, there are opportunities to build a system that is more accessible, responsive, and inclusive.
Today’s conversation is about understanding these gaps, exploring practical solutions, and asking an important question: How can we make quality healthcare more accessible to Nigerians, regardless of where they live? Again, today, the topic on Canvas is “Accessing Care Beyond Hospitals” and my guest is Mr Sampson Agboola.
