Want to go deeper? Come back Saturday for a short guided breathing and meditation practice you can use on its own whenever you need help settling…or as an extended savasana after this yin yoga practice. Find it here: going live Saturday Oct 24th.
Looking for yoga for emotional regulation or gentle yoga to calm your nervous system? 🤍 This lying-down Yin Yoga practice combines gentle movement, 4–2–6 breathing and a supportive affirmation to help you explore a little less tension, bracing and overwhelm.
Designed with fibromyalgia, chronic pain, chronic illness and low-capacity days in mind, this practice can be done completely lying down on your bed or a yoga mat.
You don't have to sit upright, hold yourself together or force yourself to relax.
Our affirmation for this practice is:
“I can let myself be supported.”
Throughout this gentle Yin Yoga practice for nervous system regulation, we'll explore:
🤍 4–2–6 breathing — a comfortable inhale, optional pause and longer exhale to explore a slower, more settled breathing rhythm.
🤍 Half wind-relieving pose — gentle movement through the hips and lower body, one side at a time.
🤍 Half happy baby — an opportunity to explore movement and support without forcing a stretch.
🤍 Windshield-wiper knees — easy side-to-side movement while remaining lying down.
🤍 Happy baby and figure-eight movement — gentle options for hip mobility and body awareness.
🤍 Savasana — a chance to become still, notice the surface beneath you and practise receiving support.
This isn't about making your anxiety disappear or forcing your nervous system into a particular state.
It's about creating a little space to notice what feels supportive.
If you're living with fibromyalgia, chronic pain or chronic illness, emotional regulation practices need to work with your body — not become another thing you have to push through.
You can make the movements smaller, change positions or skip anything that doesn't feel comfortable. If the breathing pause makes you dizzy, uncomfortable or anxious, leave it out and breathe naturally.
You don't need a dramatic shift for this practice to be worthwhile.
Sometimes noticing that your body is supported is enough.
