Can One Guitar Make a Whole Room Sing? Sweet Caroline

Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond's 1969 classic, played live on solo acoustic guitar and vocals. The whole song, start to finish, just the music, and the greatest sing-along ever written. You don't have to ask a crowd to sing this one. They just do. "Bah! Bah! Bah!" Neil Diamond wrote it almost as an afterthought: alone in a motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, the night before a recording session, he needed one more song. What he came up with went to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 and never left. It's one of the most-played songs in American history. Then it found a second life at the ballpark. Fenway Park first played it in the late 1990s, and in 2002 the Red Sox made it an eighth-inning tradition at every home game, win or lose. Neil Diamond himself led the Fenway crowd in singing it on April 20, 2013, five days after the Boston Marathon bombing. Today you'll hear it at ball games, weddings, bars and last call all over the world. I've been playing guitar for over sixty years, from street corners to country clubs.
