▶️ 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 : Driving a Southern Pacific 8085 (EMD SD9) Diesel Locomotive Train in GTA 5. 🚂 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 : The Southern Pacific (SP) was the single largest buyer of EMD SD9 diesel-electric locomotives, acquiring a fleet of 149 units built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between 1954 and 1956. Powered by a 16-cylinder EMD 567C prime mover rated at 1,750 horsepower, the SD9 was designed to spread locomotive weight across six axles via EMD's smooth-riding Flexicoil C-C trucks. Crews quickly gave the locomotive the affectionate nickname "Cadillac" due to its exceptional ride quality compared to standard four-axle power. Southern Pacific utilized the SD9 across a wide variety of territory—from steep, winding mountain passes in the Sierra Nevada and Cascades to timber branch lines in Oregon and heavy switching duty in freight yards. SP's SD9s were delivered with distinct option packages: many featured steam generators for passenger service, while others had unique dual-fuel systems equipped to burn heavy fuel oils. SP units were famously outfitted with the railroad’s signature "lighting package," which included dual headlights, emergency red lights, and oscillating Gyralights or Mars lights mounted on both high hoods, creating an unmistakable visual profile. Throughout their service lives, the SD9s underwent notable liveries and modifications. Delivered in the striking "Black Widow" scheme before shifting to SP’s standard scarlet and dark gray ("Bloody Nose") livery, the locomotive proved remarkably durable. In the 1970s, SP launched a extensive capital rebuild program at its Sacramento Shops, upgrading most of the fleet into SD9E (or SD9R) status. These rebuilds modernized the electrical systems, added upgraded air filtration, and chopped the high short hood on several units for improved forward visibility. Because of their reliability and high tractive effort on light rail, the "Cadillacs" remained active on the Southern Pacific for over four decades, with several surviving into the Union Pacific merger era and preserved in museums today. 🛠️ 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘀 : ➤ Kitsune Trains 7.3 This mod attempts to bring real life trains to Los Santos! There is something from almost every major carrier. Over 100 consists, and hundreds of liveries ensure that you should have a very random and realistic freight experience. Almost every engine and rolling stock has livery support, with most also having close to the maximum (for trains) of 25 liveries each. ➤ Freight Train Extended - East LS 2.0 This mod makes the Freight Train take a detour through some of the unused sections of the railway. It will stop at the Mirror Park Rail Yard, the Go Loco building, Cypress Flats Rail Yard, Raven Slaughterhouse, and Dockyard. It's essentially a loop around the industrial warehouse/factory area in East Los Santos. Various missing rails and a bridge has been added to make the route coherent. There are no working crossing gates, so oblivious pedestrians will be minced and cars will be totaled every time a train crosses a street. It's pretty hilarious. ➤ 2 Trains, 2 Tracks: Los Santos Local 1.1 This mod enables trains on both tracks, meaning two trains can be seen running at the same time. Slow, shorter trains operate on a reactivated line to Mirror Park and along a new line to Davis Quartz. Longer, faster, and more varied trains operate on the default route. Faster trains will safely overtake a slower train if needed, with no collisions between the two. There are locations where the faster express and slower local stop. (See Map for details.) For now, these stations have few if any amenities. This will be fixed in the future.
