Botswana! Here we come! The start of our adventure!

Join us as we embark on an African adventure of a few weeks through large parts of Botswana. This video is a bit of a drive video, but we are both excited and also filled with some trepidation. We have never before planned to go on a journey all alone, that would take us so far off the beaten track. We plan to start off in Gaborone for a night in a chalet and then go up to Palapye for another night in a chalet. From there we plan to go to Lethlakane to camp quite close to shops, where we can buy supplies if needed. The idea being that we get to test our camping equipment as though we only had to get by on what we had with us. We can then quickly get something that we find lacking. Our route will take us across the Makgadikgadi Pans, which is now one of the biggest salt pans in the world. This was once Lake Makgadikgadi and it was bigger than Switzerland! There were islands on this lake and one of them is called Kubu Island, a very popular camping site. It is not really an island anymore, as the lake dried up thousands of years ago. These first few bits of our trip will take us almost a week. Somewhere along the way we will buy food and water that will be sufficient to sustain us for a few weeks, if we had the misfortune of being stuck without help or communications in some remote place. Why would we do this to ourselves? Well, we still can and we still want to. Time has the characteristic of eroding both the ability and the desire for certain things and it becomes all too comfortable to sit on the couch and work on enhancing one’s myopia. Screens have become so pervasive, that vegetating in front of a screen of some sort for hours on end is an easily done thing. While we can, we would rather get about and experience things. Capturing these little videos is just a way of sharing with others, but YouTube has actually become more than just sharing photos and stories with those that come to visit. I do regret somewhat that I only started making videos recently. All adventures in the past have been captured on still shots, so I need to find a way of getting that out there into the universe.
